Time: | 6:30pm - 7:30pm |
Library: | Feasterville |
Categories: | Adults |

Description: |
Mary Jemison was a Scots-Irish colonial taken captive as a young girl near Gettysburg. Mary grew up as an adopted Seneca, becoming one of them and choosing to remain with this tribe all her adult life.
Alisa will portray Mary as a bridge between two cultures—the one she grew up in as a young girl and the one she experienced as a woman. Alisa will teach some Seneca language phrases; the importance of Native American contributions; and the historical background for the time period she lived in, including the French and Indian War; the Revolutionary War; and the story of Mary’s life, legacy, and why she chose to remain a Seneca.
