Thank you for a WONDROUS summer!

The dog days of summer are behind us, and everyone is gearing up for fall.  But first let’s reflect back on an AMAZING summer at our library.

We had 788 patrons of all ages sign up to track their reading for our 56-day program this summer.  Adults who participated reported reading 640 books!  Our younger patrons kept track of all the days when they read for at least a few minutes a day.  They turned in 1,230 tickets, which translates to more than 8,000 days of reading!  Wow!  We really enjoyed seeing so many patrons excited about reading this summer.  Great job, everyone!

The most popular basket this year, judging by how many kids put their tickets in to try to win it, was … surprise!  The Lego/Brick Building Engineer basket unseated the perennial favorite, the Pokémon basket, and the Book Worm basket was really popular as well.  Our staff had a great time brainstorming and creating fantastic prize baskets for you this year–we are so glad that they inspired everyone to do so much reading!  Thanks to the Friends of the Library for sponsoring our baskets again this year.

The summer also saw a lot of you having fun attending our special events at the library.  Kids got to touch spiders and bugs during the Insectopia presentation.  Families learned about aquatic creatures from presenters from the Adventure Aquarium’s Aquatic Science Center.  Everyone celebrated our country’s 250th birthday by singing along with Ray Owen during his Hats Off to America concert.  Aspiring artists made some beautiful projects with Anita, and also with Miss Melissa during the Silly Scissors Society meet-ups.  The meeting room was overflowing with all the families who enjoyed Andrew’s antics in Andrew’s Big Show!  And don’t forget all the kids who came to talk books during the Book Nook meet-ups, to learn some new moves with Action Karate, to enjoy movies and popcorn on hot Thursday afternoons, and so much more!

Thank you all for making this a summer to remember!
